Instructor: Tom Gross

Length: 1 day

Target Level: Intermediate

Target Audience: Integrator, Developer

  • When: Tuesday, 9:00-6:00, Zipcar Cafe
  • What will you learn: How to use Solr as an external full text search index for Plone, including indexing custom dexterity content; how to use Solr for faceted search (with eea.facetednavigation); and how to use advanced Solr features like suggestions, spell checking, etc. Though the main focus will be on integrating Solr using collective.solr, alternatives like alm.solrindex and elasticsearch will also be covered. We will also cover production deployments, monitoring Solr, and advanced multi-machine configurations.
  • Prerequisites: Some Python experience and basic familiarity with using and configuring Plone.
  • Things to bring: A laptop with Plone installed as described in Chapter 4, Installing Plone for the Training. It is extremely important that you come to the class with a working Plone installation on your laptop! If you do not you won't be able to keep up with the instruction. Your laptop should also have Java 7 or 8 installed - this is necessary to install Solr.
